Hero Motocorp eyes premium pie

CHENNAI : Seeking to make a mark in one of the few categories in which it has not been strong, the country’s largest two wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp has launched an updated version of its premium segment bike Achiever 150. The model will be priced at Rs 62,800.

“The launch of the next generation Achiever 150 is a reiteration of our strong focus on developing new, technologically superior and youthful products across segments for our customers in India and across the globe,” Hero MotoCorp Chairman, MD and CEO Pawan Munjal said. Hero Motocorp has been a consistent market leader in both the 100 cc and 125 cc market segments — both see a high volume of sales. But the premiumj segment of motorcycles has also grown into one with a lot of potential as purchasing power has increased.

Hero has market shares of 65 per cent and 55 per cent in the 100 cc and 125 cc segments respectively. “The company is now looking at expanding presence in the premium segment as well and the latest model is a move in that direction,” Munjal added. Hero plans to add more models in the premium segment.

“This is just the beginning of a wide and vast effort in the premium segment.. there is a lot more to come,” Munjal said. “With new launches, we are confident of taking it (market share) to double digits,” Sales Marketing and Customer Care Head, Ashok Bhasin said.
