Auto Expo 2014: New Car and Motorcycle Launches

At a time when the auto sector in India is witnessing the worst slowdown of the decade, the biggest automobile show, - 12th Auto Expo 2014 - will get underway with the hope that the exhibition would help the auto sector get back on the right track.

The 12th edition of the bi-annual event will be host to unveiling of 70 new models of which  26 will be global.

The Indian auto industry has been reeling under a prolonged slowdown, with annual car sales dipping for the first time in 11 years in 2013 to 9.59 per cent.

Here are the star attractions of the event:

Hero MotoCorp today said it will launch three new scooter models and a variant by March 2016.

While the first model 110 cc DASH will be rolled out in the first half of the next fiscal, the 125-cc DARE will hit the road in the second half of FY 15, Hero MotoCorp managing director and chief executive Pawan Munjal said.

However, the 100 cc ZIR model will be launched in the first half of the financial year 2015-16, Munjal said, adding a European style step-through variant of ZIR will also be rolled out.

 

Triumph launches Daytona 675; Price Rs 10.15 lakh

With the launch of 'Daytona 675', Triumph now have eleven motorcycles on sale in the Indian market. Triumph strode into the Indian market with 10 models in November last year.

In 2013, the company launched 10 brands in the country including Bonneville T100, Daytona 675R, Street Triple, Speed Triple and Thruxton.

 

Maruti Launches 'Celerio' Priced upto Rs 4.96 lakh

The Celerio will be pitched against the likes of Hyundai's Grandi10 and Honda's Brio, whose automatic versions are priced at Rs. 6.04 lakh and Rs.6.19 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Celerio will offer a fuel efficiency of 23.1 km per litre.

The twin cylinder motor will be liquid-cooled and use an advance fuel injection system.  The R25 borrows its styling from Yamaha’s M1 MotoGP machine, making it  one of the best looking quarter-litre motorcycles.

BMW i8

 

Hero HX250R

The HX250R will come equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and multi-sensor electronic fueling. This is Hero’s first in-house built motor, after its separation from Honda. The company has R&D tie up with Eric Buell Racing and AVL.

The Xcent is expected to hit the market by March this year. This new model is among the four new models that the company plans to launch in the next two years, including a compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), to enhance its position in the market.

 

Two Sedans from Ford

Betting big on the Indian market, US auto major Ford Motor Co unveiled its all new mid-sized sedan Fiesta and compact sedan Figo Concept.

 

Suzuki Ciaz Concept

India's car market leader Maruti Suzuki India today unveiled two concept models – sedan Ciaz and crossover SX4 S-Cross -- as it looks to enhance its position in the bigger sedan segment going forward.

Awaiting a formal notification on quadricycle, Pune-based Bajaj Auto said it is ready to roll out its RE60 model once it gets a go ahead from the government.

Showing its commitment to the Indian market, French car maker Renault today made the global launch of its concept car KWID here besides introducing new variants of models Fluence and Duster.

Honda Mobilio and new Jazz

Bullish on India despite the ongoing slowdown, Japanese auto major Honda today said it would launch two models in the country during the next fiscal.    

Honda Cars India Ltd unveiled its mid size multi-purpose vehicle 'Honda Mobilio' and the all-new third generation 'Honda Jazz'.

German auto major Volkswagen today unveiled its concept SUV Taigun as it looks to rev up sales in India.

Two new models from Skoda

Czech car maker Skoda today said it will launch two redesigned models in India this year.         

A redesigned Skoda Superb (sedan) will be launched in the middle of the first quarter, while Skoda Yeti (compact SUV) will arrive in the second half of 2014.  

Toyota Unveils All-new Corolla Altis

Toyota Kirloskar Motor today unveiled a new version of its Corolla Altis, which is equipped with advanced features and a fresh design.

The 11th-generation Corolla Altis has been designed to keep up with the times and add value, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Managing Director Naomi Ishii said at the 12th Auto Expo here.   The company opened bookings for the new model today. The price will be revealed in May, when sales are launched and deliveries start, he said. The price of the current model starts at about Rs 11 lakh.
