Indigo rules domestic airline market

NEW DELHI: Continuing with the growth trajectory, domestic airlines in the country registered a 23 per cent increase in passenger traffic between January and July, 2016, as compared to the same period last year, carrying 560.87 lakh passengers.

Among the carries, SpiceJet registered the highest load factor at 93 per cent in July followed by Air Asia at 90.2 per cent and Go Air at 84.6 per cent. The load factor of state-carrier Air India stood at 80.3 per cent.

“Indian aviation continues to soar. July passenger growth reaches a record breaking 25,” Tweeted Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju after the figures were released by DGCA.

s per its statistics, Indigo continued to dominate the airline market during the month, cornering close to 40 per cent of the domestic market.

As far as passenger complaints and cancellation goes, Air Pegasus fared the worst in July. Its overall cancellation rate stood at close to 30 per cent and the passenger complaints against the airline stood at a high of 97.1 per cent of all the airlines put together. 

Data compiled by DGCA said that 1,111 passengers were denied booking and paid a compensation of `35.56 lakh and 4,697 passengers were affected because of cancellations. About 65,953 passengers were affected because of delays.
