According to auto experts, the Italian super sports car maker has taken the shortest time to launch its product in India. “It is an indication that the Indian auto market is mature for such vehicles,” said Ranojoy Mukherjee, an auto expert.

For Lamborghini, it is a step to strengthen its brand and market position in India. “This is the third launch for us in 2017 and a step towards strengthening our market position in India,” said Sharad Agarwal, India head of Lamborghini. He pointed out that the super sports car segment is around 70 units a year and that it might touch 100 units by 2018-19.

According to Agarwal, in India there is a growing demand, not just from metros but also from small cities, for sports cars. The Performante, the latest model in the Huracan range of Lamborghini comes with a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine and can accelerate from zero km per hour to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds flat. This model has a top speed of 325 km per hour. It has a hybrid aluminum and carbon fibre frame that makes it lighter by 40 kg than other Huracan family models.

Agarwal said the model has been sold out in India. The company follows a system of limited production each year and then allocates the number of units for specified geographies based on the demand and sales support. He said that on an average, the company manufactures about 3,800 units. He added the company has already sold out the allocation of Lamborghini Performante for the year in India. “We are currently requesting more allocation for India as this is one of the important markets for Lamborghini,” he added.
