Tata Motors launches sub-brand TAMO

The company will reveal its first product under TAMO, the Futuro, on March 7 ahead of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

CHENNAI: In a bid to regain market share and to stay a step ahead in meeting customer expectations, Tata Motors on Thursday launched a new sub-brand called TAMO (short for Tata Motors) under which new technology-equipped vehicles would be launched. The company will reveal its first product under TAMO, the Futuro, on March 7 ahead of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

The company will undertake limited production of the car and the production version is expected to hit the market by 2018. The two-seater sports coupe Futuro will be priced at around Rs 25 lakh.
Under the TAMO sub-brand, the company will launch vehicles that are low in volumes requiring low investment. It is also looking at a different buying experience for TAMO vehicles, although it has not confirmed if it would set up a separate retail chain as market leader Maruti Suzuki has done with Nexa.
“We need a different way to get into the future. To secure our future in a rapidly changing environment, the advanced mobility solutions space is of utmost importance. The introduction of TAMO will help us co-design India’s automotive footprint by taking new technologies and mobility concepts as a new ecosystem,” said Guenter Butschek, managing director and CEO, Tata Motors, adding it will be a ring-fenced agile that would serve as an incubating environment towards new technologies, business models and partnerships.
