Apollo gives elder care a leg-up

The Geriatric Care centres have been divided into four zones – outpatient, inpatient, emergency and home care.

NEW DELHI: Seeking to improve the health and well-being of the elderly people, healthcare major Apollo Hospitals on Friday launched ‘Apollo Elder Care’, in six major cities across the  country.

In the first phase of the launch, the service will be available across Apollo Hospitals in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi and Bhubaneswar, said a company statement. This one-stop service will address physical, psychological, medicinal and financial concerns of a patient and his caregivers.

“Health issues facing the elderly can be very complex and puzzling... At Apollo, we felt that elderly care needs a special environment and attention that can help them improve their functional ability, physical health, cognition and mental health,” said Apollo Hospitals Group President Hariprasad.

The growing numbers of ageing population necessitates healthy ageing as a chief prerequisite for the Indian population, and a “holistic approach to their health needs is one of the current foci of the Indian health sector,” he added.

The Geriatric Care centres have been divided into four zones – outpatient, inpatient, emergency and home care. The core treatment facilities available at the centre include care towards preventing and managing fractures, dizziness, depression, vaccinations, fatigue, and physiotherapy, among others.
