PepsiCo expands nutrition portfolio

The Tropicana Essentials line is being introduced with ‘Fruits & Veggies’, a juice product with Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

CHENNAI: PepsiCo India is going local in its efforts to expand its portfolio of nutrition products, especially in the morning foods segment, with the launch of two products – Quaker Nutri Foods and Tropicana Essentials.

Speaking to Express, Deepika Warrier, vice-president, nutrition category at PepsiCo India, said that the rationale behind the launch was to leverage the fast-growing morning packaged foods market in India.

“We believe we are at a tipping point. Young people are realising that they need more nutrients and home food, cooked for the entire family, is not necessarily enough for their specific needs,” she pointed out.

The launch brings introduces four products in the Quaker Nutri Foods range – Quaker Nutri Idli, Quaker Nutri Dosa, Quaker Nutri Upma and Quaker Nutri Khichdi, with up to 40-56 per cent of oats content.

The Tropicana Essentials line is being introduced with ‘Fruits & Veggies’, a juice product with Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

However, this is only a start toward fleshing out the ranges, Warrier said. April will see the launch of another juice product in the Tropicana Essentials category. Also, six to eight more variants are likely to be be introduced soon.

“We are set to do intense sampling and once we get a grip on customer preferences, we will begin expanding the portfolio, introducing more regional flavours. We have big ambitions in this space,” Warrier said.
