Wheat rises on increased offtake by flour mills

NEW DELHI: Wheat prices firmed up by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to increated offtake by flour mills against tight supplies from growing regions.

However, rice basmati remain weak on low demand.

Traders attributed the rise in wheat prices to pick up in demand from flour mills to meet ongoing festive season demand against tight stocks posiiton on fall in supplies from growing regions.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,810-1,815 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 1,815-1,820 per 90 kg.

Atta flour mill, maida and sooji also settled higher at Rs 980-990, Rs 1,000-1,010 and Rs 1,060-1,070 from previous levels of Rs 950-960, Rs 990-1,000 and Rs 1,030-1,040 per 50 kg in line with wheat trend.

On the other hand, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety eased further to Rs 7,300-7,400 and Rs 6,000-6,100 against last close of Rs 7,400-7,600 and Rs 6,200-6,500 per quintal,respectively.
