Mace Brand to set up pepper spray unit in India by October

HYDERABAD: Mace Security International, the US-based manufacturer of personal defence and security products and known popularly for its pepper sprays, will set up a manufacturing facility in India by October.

Mace entered into a JV with Nirvana Being, which is into air purifying business and the company will be called as Mace Brand India. Mace launched its products in India earlier this year, and with the setting up of this new facility in NCR, it plans to expand its presence in not just India, but all over Asia and Middle-East region.

“Mace holds more than half of global market share in the space of non-lethal self-defence and security products. It is popular for pepper sprays among general public. In India, which is regarded as most unsafe for women, there is a huge need and demand for pepper sprays. This is a market which is almost non-existent till now, but has a huge scope for growth in the coming days.

Therefore, Mace is setting up its facility here in India. About Rs 30-35 crore will be invested initially in setting up of the facility, which will be based in NCR,” said Jai Dhar Gupta, CEO, Mace Brand India.

“While Mace has a manufacturing unit in the US now, demand suddenly spikes when a Nirbhaya-like incident happens in Asian or Middle-East. Therefore, the India facility is planned to cater to not just India, but the whole of Asia and Middle-East.

It will have capacity to produce 10,000 pepper sprays per day,” Gupta said.

Besides pepper spray, Mace is already working on supplying its non-lethal weapons to several state police and armed forces in the country. Mace has over 30 years of experience in developing aerosol defence spray dispensing technologies.
