NEW DELHI: The Congress cited an Interpol report to charge the centre helped fugitive Nirav Modi, accused in the Rs 28,484 Crore PNB fraud case, escape law. "Now it is crystal clear that Modi is saving another Modi! Now the question is, whether one Modi is supporting the other," Congress spokesperson Rajeev Shukla said citing an Interpol report that despite the revocation of Nirav Modi's passport on February 24, 2018, he travelled from UK to three countries on March 15, March 28, March 30 and March 31.

Questioning the timing of Nirav's travels, the Congress said all his dummy directors in the Gitanjali group travelled conveniently from Hong Kong to UK to seek political asylum, the Modi government remained a mute spectator. "This happened at the same time when PM Modi was visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping. Why," said Shukla.

According to the Congress, Nirav Modi fled India on January 1 and was photographed as part of the business delegation at the World Economic Forum in Davos from January 23rd to 26th. "The external affairs ministry only revoked his passport on February 24th, 2018. Why did it take 54 days to revoke his passport? Was the Modi Govt aiding and abetting the escape of Nirav Modi and facilitating his escape to the farthest point from India's shores," Shukla said.

The PNB fraud has shattered the trust of the people in the banking sector, said Shukla, adding how the RBI Governor recently blamed the Punjab National Bank's board and its lack of clear powers to deal with massive scams while briefing a parliament panel. Quoting RBI data, he said in the first eight months of financial year 2017-18, receipts within small savings schemes amounted to Rs 40,429 crore, a seven-fold dip from Rs 2,75,682 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The Congress leader pointed out how the RBI Governor squarely blamed the Punjab National Bank's board and its lack of clear powers to deal with massive scams while briefing a parliament panel about it. Similarly, in the eight-month period between April and November 2017, the total public provident funds PPF receipts stood at Rs 1,775 crore, down from Rs 5,722 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year, the Congress leader said. "Kisan Vikas Patra and Sukanya Smridhi Yojana interest rate is slashed. Even savings interest rate is slashed. Service Tax is now 18 percent in the form of GST. People have less money in their hands, even of their own hard earned savings," Shukla added.

How did Congress allow Quotrochi to escape? How was the other Modhi (connected with IPL) allowed to escape? Let Congress explain first. Congress is parroting that the present Central Government is interested in helping only the big businessmen and not the poor.
