Jindal Steel & Power's four steel production units opened in Odisha

Four key steel manufacturing facilities are being dedicated to the nation, JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal said.

BHUBANESWAR: Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday inaugurated the basic oxygen furnace at the integrated steel plant of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) in Odisha and its other facilities here.

The ministers also inaugurated a 2 million tonne per annum (MTPA) DRI plant, a blast furnace billed as India’s largest, and a coal gasification plant for making steel based on indigenous coal.

Four key steel manufacturing facilities are being dedicated to the nation, JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal said. “The 4,554 cubic metre Blast Furnace is India’s largest and the three MTPA Basic Oxygen Furnaces the most modern BOFs in the country,” he said.

He said the 2 MTPA DRI Plant is the world’s largest syngas-based plant and for the first time, a company in India is using coal gasification method for steel making. The coal gasification plant has been set up with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
