R Madhavan joins as new CMD of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

Madhavan, who earlier headed the HAL's Accessories Division in Lucknow as an Executive Director. has contributed to "Make in India" drive by developing MSME vendors for aerospace manufacturing.

BENGALURU: After a successful stint of 36 years at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), outgoing Chairman and Managing Director T Suvarna Raju on Saturday handed over the reigns of the defence public sector undertaking to his successor, R Madhavan. Madhavan, who was heading the accessories division of HAL in Lucknow, assumed office as the new CMD. "Maintaining the numero uno position of HAL in the aerospace industry while delivering world-class products and services through increased indigenisation will be my key focus areas," Madhavan. "

The emphasis will be to build on the core competence of the company and emerge as the preferred supplier in the aerospace industry," he added.

Born in 1962, Madhavan is a mechanical Engineer from NIT, Raipur and holds a post graduate degree in M. Tech. from IIT Madras. He joined HAL as a management trainee in July 1982 and has comprehensive management and engineering experience.

During his earlier stints with HAL, he spearheaded several projects including the successful absorption of technology for production of the Su-30 airframe and engine accessories from raw material phase at HAL's Accessories Division, Lucknow. According to HAL, the new CMD's focus areas will also include design and development, order book position and product mix which meets customer requirements.
