Sensex, Nifty close at all time high

Indian markets settled on higher note on Thursday with Sensex and Nifty at all time high. Realty, power and oil & gas stocks witnessed a rise whereas healthcare stocks registered a fall.

At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 237.01 points or 1.11% at 21,513.87 with 23 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 71.45 points or 1.13% at 6,400.10 with 43 components posting rise.

Sensex Movers

I C I C I Bank contributed rise of 44.13 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (36.79 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (25.75 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (21.36 points) and H D F C Bank (20.04 points).

However, Tata Motors contributed fall of 6.06 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (5.09 points), Wipro (2.58 points), Hindustan Unilever (2.14 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.01 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (4.42%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.05%), Jindal Steel & Power (2.72%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.71%), NTPC (2.63%), and I C I C I Bank (2.57%).

On the other hand, Cipla (1.36%), Wipro (0.86%), Tata Motors (0.85%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.45%), Hindustan Unilever (0.31%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.20%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.21% and 1.22% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allcargo Logistics (3.73%), Alstom India (2.56%), Aban Offshore (0.94%), Allahabad Bank (0.82%) and Amara Raja Batteries (0.49%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (15.46%), Styrolution ABS (India) (6.91%), Dr Datsons Labs (2.04%), Adhunik Metaliks (0.31%) and Trident (0.07%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 1,289.93, up by 50.70 points or by 4.09%. The major gainers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (7.69%), Indiabulls Real Estate (5.07%), D L F (5.01%), Parsvnath Developers (3.76%) and Godrej Properties (3.03%).

The Power index was at 1,582.23, up by 37.83 points or by 2.45%. The major gainers were Reliance Infrastructure (10.01%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.05%), Crompton Greaves (3.97%), C E S C (2.95%) and Adani Power (1.09%).

The Oil & Gas index was at 8,756.51, up by 190.91 points or by 2.23%. The major gainers were Bharat Petroleum Corporation (4.49%), Indian Oil Corporation (3.86%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (3.67%), G A I L (India) (2.03%) and Cairn India (1.9%).

On the other hand, the HC index was at 10,584.59, down by 28.55 points or by 0.27%. The major losers were Cadila Healthcare (1.78%), Cipla (1.36%), Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (1%), Biocon (0.62%) and Aurobindo Pharma (0.41%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,754 advances against 1,062 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Tata Elxsi topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 602.17 million. It was followed by Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 557.70 million), Yes Bank (Rs. 477.99 million) and Just Dial (Rs. 420.89 million).

The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 4.86 million shares. It was followed by Hindustan Construction Company (3.47 million), Jai Corp (2.79 million) and Time Technoplast (2.63 million).
