Indian market settled on ahigher note on Friday. IT, technology
and oil & gas stocks witnessed a rise whereas healthcare stocks
registered a fall.India's headline inflation eased to 5.05% in
January 2014 as compared to 6.16% for the previous month.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained
173.47 points or 0.86% at 20,366.82 with 20 components registering
rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 46.25points
or 0.77% at 6,047.35 with 36 components registering rise.
Reliance Industries contributed rise of
30.37 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (27.66
points), Infosys (23.18 points), Tata Motors (21.81 points) and I T
C (21.06 points).
However, State Bank Of India contributed fall of 12.64 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.46
points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.41 points), Hero Motocorp
(3.36 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.33 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (3.25%),
G A I L (India) (2.56%), Reliance Industries (1.74%), H D F C Bank
(1.72%), Infosys (1.65%), and NTPC (1.58%).
On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (3.42%), Bharat Heavy Electricals
(2.21%), Cipla (2.01%), Hero Motocorp (1.79%), State Bank Of India
(1.64%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.94%) were the biggest
losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Midcap settled higher7.10 points or 0.11% at 6,311.88
however the Bse Smallcap dropped 2.80 points or 0.04% at 6,279.69
at the closing.The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amara Raja
Batteries (2.7%), Alstom India (1.59%), Allcargo Logistics (1.55%),
A I A Engineering (0.42%) and A B G Shipyard (0.11%).The major
losers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (2.95%), Dr Datsons Labs
(2.86%), Aarti Industries (1.17%), A2Z Maintenance &
Engineering Services (0.29%) and Styrolution ABS (India)
Sectors in Limelight
The IT index was at 9,357.28, up by 122.71 points or by 1.33%.
The major gainers were Hexaware Technologies (2.39%), Infosys
(1.65%), Mphasis (1.35%), Tech Mahindra (0.99%) and H C L
The TECk index was at 5,086.54, up by 59.05 points or by 1.17%.
The major gainers were Mphasis (1.35%), Bharti Airtel (0.86%), Idea
Cellular (0.8%), Dish TV India (0.44%) and Reliance MediaWorks
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,365.95, up by 79.98 points or
by 0.97%. The major gainers were G A I L (India) (2.56%), Oil &
Natural Gas Corporation (0.88%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation
(0.66%), Oil India (0.57%) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation
On the other hand, the HC index was at 10,158.64, down by 6.43
points or by 0.06%. The major losers were Cipla (2.01%), Apollo
Hospitals Enterprise (2%), Opto Circuits (India) (1.37%), Strides
Arcolab (0.94%) and Piramal Enterprises (0.43%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,260 advances against 1,385
Value and Volume Toppers
State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a
turnover of Rs. 1,391.54 million. It was followed by Tata Elxsi
(Rs. 637.31 million), Future Retail (Rs. 475.22 million) and United
Spirits (Rs. 391.66 million).
The volume chart was led by Future Retail with trades of over
5.75 million shares. It was followed by Empower India (2.40
million), Yantra Natural Resources (2.29 million) and Housing
Development and Infrastructure (2.00 million).
