Indian equitiesended today's session on abuoyant note led by
gains seen in oil & gas and realty stocks.At the close, the
benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 371.10 points or 1.79%
at 21,079.72 with 27 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the
broad based NSE Nifty went up by 107.60 or 1.74% at 6,274.25 with
46 components posting rise.
Reliance Industries contributed rise of 82.66 points in the
Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation
(49.95 points), I C I C I Bank (37.24 points), Oil & Natural
Gas Corporation (36.53 points) and H D F C Bank (30.95 points).
However, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries contributed fall of 3.43
points in the Sensex. It was followed by Grasim Industries (1.52
points),Hindalco Industries (0.34 points) and Larsen & Toubro
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Reliance Industries
(4.58%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.93%), Wipro (3.60%),
Mahindra & Mahindra (3.35%), Housing Development Finance
Corporation (3.05%), and Hindustan Unilever (2.42%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.69%), and
Jindal Steel & Power (0.50%) were the biggest losers in the
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger
counterparts gaining 1.73% and 1.28% respectively.The major gainers
in the BSE Midcap were Allahabad Bank(3.08%), Amtek Auto (2.88%), A
B G Shipyard (2.27%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.57%) and Aban
Offshore (0.22%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were
Reliance MediaWorks (4.52%), Advanta (3.82%), Styrolution ABS
(India) (1.72%), Dr Datsons Labs (1.67%) and Aarti Industries
Sectors in Limelight
The Oil & Gas index was at 8,779.99, up by 323.66 points or
by 3.83%. The major gainers were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation
(4.41%), Cairn India (3.13%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (1.81%),
Castrol India (1.55%) and G A I L (India) (1.32%).
The Realty index was at 1,406.31, up by 37.76 points or by
2.76%. The major gainers were Anant Raj (19.74%), Housing
Development and Infrastructure (5.93%), Indiabulls Real Estate
(3.14%), D L F (2.65%) and Godrej Properties (0.3%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 5,686.31,
down by 83.78 points or by 1.45%. The major losers were Rajesh
Exports (17.02%), Gitanjali Gems (3.37%), Titan Company (1.68%) and
Blue Star (0.19%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,556 advances against 1,007
Value and Volume Toppers
Power Grid Corporation Of India topped the value chart on the
BSE with a turnover of Rs. 849.60 million. It was followed by Multi
Commodity Exchange of India (Rs. 779.62 million), Reliance
Industries (Rs. 581.55 million) and Tech Mahindra (Rs. 510.90
