Sensex remains flat; BHEL up, RIL down

Indian equities continues to trade flat amid volatilityon Tuesday. Power, capital goods and realty stocks witnessed a rise whereas oil & gas stocks registered a fall.

At 2.31 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 6.84 points or 0.03% at 22,048.64 with 14 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 4.30 points or 0.07% at 6,587.80 with 31 components gaining.

Sensex Movers

Reliance Industries contributed fall of 53.68 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (16.2 points), Infosys (7.92 points), Tata Consultancy Services (7.02 points) and Wipro (5.43 points).

However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 23.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (18.13 points), Larsen & Toubro (11.43 points), I T C (9.85 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (8.61 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.99%), Hero Motocorp (2.42%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.38%), Tata Steel (1.38%), Tata Power Company (1.31%), and Hindustan Unilever (1.11%).

On the other hand, Reliance Industries (2.84%), Wipro (1.76%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.67%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.71%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.66%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.61%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.58% and 0.12% respectively. The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek Auto (1.94%), A B G Shipyard (1.39%), Amara Raja Batteries (1%), Alstom India (0.85%) and Allahabad Bank (0.61%).The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Styrolution ABS (India) (1.28%), Aarti Industries (1.26%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.11%), Dr Datsons Labs (1.06%) and Trident (0.84%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Power index was at 1,668.49, up by 28.09 points or by 1.71%. The major gainers were A B B India (4%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.99%), C E S C (2.81%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.1%) and Adani Power (0.72%).

The Capital Goods index was at 11,696.38, up by 154.43 points or by 1.34%. The major gainers were A B B India (4%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.99%), Crompton Greaves (1.75%), Bharat Electronics (1.52%) and Alstom India (0.85%).

The Realty index was at 1,393.88, up by 17.93 points or by 1.30%. The major gainers were D L F (3.23%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.45%), Godrej Properties (1.78%), Indiabulls Real Estate (0.3%) and Anant Raj (0.27%).

On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 9,143.85, down by 158.38 points or by 1.7%. The major losers were Reliance Industries (2.84%), Oil India (2.58%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.67%), Castrol India (0.92%) and Petronet LNG (0.41%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 1,205 advances against 1,599 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Apollo Tyres topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 812.28 million. It was followed by Tata Steel (Rs. 290.27 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 271.17 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 270.88 million).

The volume chart was led by Apollo Tyres with trades of over 5.19 million shares. It was followed by Indian Infotech and Software (4.36 million), Birla Power Solutions (4.17 million) and KSS (3.18 million).
