Sensex trades up slightly; metal up, oil & gas down

Indian markets are trading slightly higheron Thursday ahead of
F&O expiry today. Metal, capital goods and healthcare stocks
led the rally in the market. At 12.21 pm, the Sensex was trading up
69.15 points or 0.35% at 19,925.39 with 17 components gaining.
Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 15.85 points or 0.27% at
5,889.70 with 31 components gaining.
Housing Development Finance Corporation
contributed rise of 30.81 points in the Sensex. It was followed by
I C I C I Bank (21.55 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (13.33
points), Larsen & Toubro (9.02 points) and Mahindra &
Mahindra (7.38 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 13.88 points in
the Sensex. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever (8.25 points), I
T C (7.44 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (6.92 points)
and H D F C Bank (2.66 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical
Industries (2.86%), Coal India (2.73%), Bharat Heavy Electricals
(2.69%), Tata Steel (2.58%), Wipro (2.49%), and Housing Development
Finance Corporation (1.99%).
On the other hand, Jindal Steel & Power (2.06%), G A I L
(India) (1.34%), Hindustan Unilever (1.29%), Reliance Industries
(0.81%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.79%), and Cipla
(0.79%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Sectors in Limelight
The Metal index was at 8,774.99, up by 102.22 points or by
1.18%. The major gainers were Coal India (2.73%), Hindalco
Industries (1.07%), NMDC (0.96%), Bhushan Steel (0.24%) and
Hindustan Zinc (0.04%).
The Capital Goods index was at 8,073.20, up by 70.68 points or
by 0.88%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.69%),
BEML (1.77%), F A G Bearings India (1.14%), A B B India (0.83%) and
Bharat Electronics (0.72%).
The HC index was at 9,472.75, up by 76.20 points or by 0.81%.
The major gainers were Glenmark Pharmaceutical (3.24%), Apollo
Hospitals Enterprise (0.95%), Ipca Laboratories (0.79%), Biocon
(0.21%) and Dr Reddy"S Laboratories (0.16%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 8,379.43, down
by 66.99 points or by 0.79%. The major losers were Oil India
(3.41%), Indian Oil Corporation (1.74%), G A I L (India) (1.34%),
Castrol India (0.4%) and Cairn India (0.11%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,064 advances against 896
Value and Volume Toppers
Sesa Goa topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of
Rs. 385.41 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 378.13
million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 261.71 million) and Financial
Technologies (India) (Rs. 232.09 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of
over 5.35 million shares. It was followed by Cals Refineries (2.14
million), Sesa Goa (2.01 million) and Ashok Leyland (1.73
