TN Software Exports May Reach Rs 60k-Cr Mark in 2012-13: STPI

Software exports from Tamil Nadu are expected to touch Rs 60,000 crore mark in 2012-13, up by 10 per cent over last year, a top official from Software Technology Parks of India, Chennai has said.

"This year, we are expecting it to be between Rs 58,000 crore to Rs 60,000 crore..., " STPI Chennai Director J Parthasarathy told reporters here on the sidelines of a seminar titled 'Bridge 2014', organised by Institute of Communication Technology Academy, Tamil Nadu.

Asked whether there was an impact of global uncertain market conditions on exports from Tamil Nadu, he said, "No, it was not."

According to the policy note of the state IT department, nearly 3.75 lakh employees work in IT and IT-enabled service companies in and around Chennai.

The software exports from the state during the year is expected to be more than 10 per cent, it said.

In 2011-12, software exports from Tamil Nadu registered a 17 per cent growth to touch Rs 48,000 crore as compared to Rs 42,000 crore registered during the previous year.
