A security guard of Hewlett Packard (HP) company died after the Tata Sumo, in which he was travelling, met with an accident at Cauvery Junction on M G Road early Sunday morning.

Police said Ashwath Narayan (30) was killed when the Sumo collided with a car coming from Commercial Street at 2 .45 am. The Sumo was heading towards Vijayanagar from Halasur to drop three HP employees.

The employees - Om Prakash, Shivkumar and Sundarjit -  escaped with minor injuries, while Ashwath, seated in the rear, sustained head injuries and died at Bowring Hospital, police said. Drivers of both cars escaped without injuries.

According to police, rash and negligent driving on part of the Sumo driver, Kumar Venkatesh, led to the accident. Venkatesh is said to have been driving the car at a high speed.

Narayan’s body has been handed over to his family. Investigation is on.

Homemaker Robbed of Gold Chain

In a daring incident, two chain-snatchers robbed a housewife of her gold chain as her neighbours remained mute spectators, in the limits of Hennur police station.

According to police, the incident took place when Shruthi (22), was drawing rangoli in front of her house.

Police said two thieves,  who came on a bike  wearing helmets, snatched the chain while Shruthi’s neighbours did not come to her rescue. When Shruthi held on to her chain, it broke into two and the miscreants made away with a portion of the chain. Hennur police are investigating the incident.
