BANGALORE: The fly-over at Mathikere on M S Ramaiah Road was named after Dr Shyama Prasad Mukharjee on Sunday. The welcome arch of the flyover was inaugurated by Home Minister R Ashok and Malleswaram MLA C N Ashwatha Narayan Rao.

During the inauguration, Ashok said, “This fly-over links two areas, and is named after Dr Shyama, to make him more popular among Bangaloreans.”

The Home Minister also said that ‘title deeds’ (Hakku Patra) will be distributed to poor people residing on government land. He also mentioned houses would be built for them. Also speaking at the occasion, Ashwatha Narayan said, “Dr Shyama’s role in protest against granting separate constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir was significant. Many of his contributions to the country are not known today. This initiative aims to make people aware of Dr Shyama.”

Also during the occasion, a bus stop at Mathikere and a bridge over the storm water drain was inaugurated.
