Creating world-class leaders

To create leaders for the future, The Institute of Experiential Learning (INEXEL) is conducting Head Table, a leadership event for school children.

Head Table will bring together student leaders from 100 schools in Chennai for an insightful experience on leadership. The theme for the event will be ‘Transparency and Ethical Practice’ and the students will interact with a panel of eminent personalities from various fields to understand the pressing concerns of the present day society and to contribute to bring about a change.

Mehar Zariwala, director of Institute of Experiential Learning explained that the idea of the event is to create active leaders. “We want the captains or head boy/girl of the schools to be real leaders who solve issues and set an example rather than just play a disciplinary role. That is exactly why we have created such an event,” she said.

This is not the first time INEXEL is creating such an event. Head Table was previously conducted in Bangalore twice and after a successful show there, INEXEL will be conducting its third edition in Chennai. “In Bangalore, we had more than 300 schools taking part in the last two years and from the next year on, we want to take it to more cities across India,” said Zariwala.

Zariwala explains that through peer interaction and panel discussions with eminent personalities, these student leaders are provided a platform to voice their concerns, opinions, ideas and suggestions. “This platform also seeks to create opportunities for active citizenship and transformational growth among student leaders,” she said.

The panelists of the event are M V Subbiah (business), Swarna Rajagopalan (civil society), George Chandy (medicine) and Wilfred Davidar (government). The students should research ahead and ask appropriate questions to the panelists and take the learning back to their school and tell other students.

The event will take place Mahindra World School, Chengalpattu, Chennai on November 3.
