Police make jeep 'vanish' after non-stop CE chase

Parked on one of the busiest roads of Bangalore, was a police jeep covered with a layer of dust.

Outside the Ulsoor Police Station it stood innocuously for months together, but owing to the narrowness of the stretch it was a hindrance. But no one questioned.

City Express (CE) decided to track down the ownership of the gypsy and pursued it at various levels of the police department.

Getting a whiff of our investigation, the gypsy was indeed cleared, but timely enough for the police department to avoid embarrassment, the Canadian Prime Minister was visiting the historic Someshwar Temple nearby.

We were told that the vehicle was moved and the stretch cleared owing to the high profile visit by Stephen Harper.

When we spoke to traffic police inspector of Ulsoor traffic police station, C R Geetha, she admitted it was a nuisance.

When City Express contacted the DCP (East Division) T G Krishna Bhatt, he told us that it must be a vehicle belonging to the public.

When we emphasised it belonged to the Police Department, he said that the vehicle might be under repair and asked us to get in touch with the Motor Transport Officer (MTO) for clarity.

A senior traffic police official asked us to contact CR (South) or CR Headquarters, MTO.

On contacting the traffic control room, we were directed to a slew of other departments.

After the initial confusion, we were finally connected to CR (South).

He told us that the said series does not belong to CR (South) and advised us to contact the RTO (Regional Transport Office).

But the attention that the jeep drew had spread and with the Canadian Prime Minister lending a helping hand in avoiding any embarrassment to the police, the jeep was moved to the Indiranagar police station.
