Tucked away in a quiet corner near Indiranagar, next to the BIC (Bangalore International Centre), Domlur Club stands tall amidst lush greenery.
The club was started in the year 1991 as Domlur Senior Citizen’s Club and it has over the years expanded into one of the finest clubs in the city.
In 1996, it moved to the current location, which though relatively small compared to other clubs, has all the facilities.
As its former president proudly declares, “We might be the smallest, but we are the fastest developing clubs in Bangalore today.” They like to call themselves a friendly ‘family’ club.
They are popular for their signature dish ie. Biriyani. One of the committee members said, “Our Biriyani is very famous.
Even if people go to other clubs to drink, they make sure they come to our club for the Biriyani.
” The club boasts of 1,725 members which comprises Honorary members, Corporate members, Temporary members and Usage members (visit domlurclub.in for details) .
Members’ guests can use other facilities like library by paying a nominal fee of Rs 50 during weekends and Rs 20 during weekdays. (it varies for different sporting activities) The club is currently under the leadership of President G Vijaya Kumar, Vice president J Maruthi, Secretary R Gopi, Joint Secretary Suraj R Manjunathan and Treasurer S Naveen. It has 15 Committee members including 10 EC members and five office bearers.
Restaurants and Bar: The club has four restaurants including two open restaurants with a seating capacity of 100 and 150 each, in the ground and floor respectively.
The ground floor has a separate smoking section. Every restaurant has a giant screen for a complete TV viewing experience. There is an exclusive non smoking lounge meant for families.
Apart from that, there is a bar and restaurant (A/C) which can accommodate 75 members. Vegetarian and non vegetarian food is prepared in separate kitchens.
Membership: If you want to become a member, you need to submit your resume along with `3 lakh as membership fees plus `3,93,750 taxes.
An application is given to the potential member, if he or she fulfils the basic requirements which includes minimum qualification, a degree in this case.
Matters relating to membership are discussed in a meeting on the last Friday of the month where various factors are looked into, such as the applicant’s family background and other factors.
Children are provided with dependant membership.
They usually take one week to revert to the applicants and in case they are rejected, the membership fees is refunded.
Library:The club has around 5,000 books which includes fiction, non-fiction, magazines, CDs for educational purpose, all in Kannada, English and Hindi.
Sports and recreation: They take a lot of pride in their Health Club which has a gym (imported equipment), steam and sauna, salon, massage parlour, one Tennis, three Badminton, Table Tennis and Squash court, Billiards room, swimming pool etc.
They also have three party halls including one which is meant exclusively for members.
Both party halls have a seating capacity of 100 each and the other one is an auditorium which can seat 300 people.
They also have a Children’s Park. There is a separate cards section too.
Recreational activities: Housie is conducted for club members every Saturday (6 to 8:30 pm). New Year and Rajyotsava are the two occasions which are celebrated in a big way.
During Rajyotsava, they have many sporting activities (indoor and outdoor) for members of all ages, right from 5 to 60 years old.
Celebrity members: The members of the club include many senior police officials and politicians. Actress Ruchita Prasad is one of their members.
Accommodation: 21 guest rooms are available for guests which would cost `1200 plus taxes per room for a single night. Members can book these 3 star rooms only on behalf of their guests.
Other facilities: The club has a compact and sophisticated Boardroom with a seating capacity of 20 people. It is rented for corporate meetings and seminars.
Charges-Rs 3,500 for 3-4 hours.
Affiliation: Around 28 clubs are affiliated to the Domlur Club.
Members’ guests are not permitted in the affiliated clubs and the members need to produce their ID card on arrival.
