TI to notify staff about layoffs

Texas Instruments (TI) which is said to be laying off over 500 employees, said  in a letter to its employees that it will notify them about the move soon.

“We will notify employees whose jobs are directly affected as quickly as possible, with some notifications taking place before the end of the month,” the mail read and added that their new focus would be on Embedded Wireless Connectivity, OMAP processors for automotive and OMAP emerging end equipment.

Sources said that the official intimation could come in by November 26. Though there was no confirmation, sources said that their colleagues in Israel were already intimated about the layoffs.

The company’s response also stated that the move is expected to result in savings  of about  $450 million by the end of 2013.

Incidentally, Motorola, which is located next to TI office, saw 300 people being asked to leave after Google announced a 20 per cent cut in all Motorola Mobility jobs worldwide.
