Corps Day celebrated in Bangalore

On the eve of the Corps Day, a wreath laying ceremony was held at the Madras Engineer Group and Centre in Bangalore on Saturday.

 Brigadier Pawan Anand, Commandant of MEG & Centre placed a wreath at the War Memorial and paid homage to the War Heroes.

 He also addressed the officers, junior commissioned officers and the jawans at a Special Sainik Sammelan.

 It was on November 18, 1932, the three Sappers and Miners Corps were reorganised and all Pioneer units were abolished and absorbed into the Corps.

 The day also commemorates the glorious association of the Corps with other arms and services.

 It is of historical and academic relevance to share the wide spectrum of responsibilities shouldered by the Corps.

 The aspects of Signals and Communication which is now performed by Corps of Signals were performed by the Sappers and Miners till 1911 when the Indian Signal Corps evolved from the Sapper and Miner Telegraph Sections.

 The Sappers were the first to contribute ten ‘airmen’ for the creation of Royal Indian Air Force.

 Corps of Engineers have left its impressions of valour and professional acumen in varied disciplines including sports and games.

 The Corps have contributed immensely towards nation building and have been main stay of the country whenever we were struck by national disasters like floods, earth quakes etc and emergencies.
