Family dispute ends in murder of son-in-law

A family dispute led a man to murder his son-in-law at his residence in Subbaiahnapalya Sixth Cross in Banasawadi police station limits.

Babu Reddy, 45, an ex-serviceman, is the deceased. His father-in-law Mohan Reddy, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, surrendered to the police after the murder.

Police said Babu was working as a security officer with a private security agency.

He was married to Kalpana, Mohan Reddy’s daughter, about 15 years ago and the couple had a 13-year-old son. The couple used to quarrel over trivial issues and fed up with this, Kalpana had left her husband and had gone to her parents village.

However, Reddy had convinced her and had united the couple on Tuesday.

“Reddy had asked Babu to not harass Kalpana. On Wednesday morning, Babu and Reddy quarreled over the matter and Babu slapped Reddy. Enraged over this, Reddy attacked Babu with an iron rod and smashed his head with a hollow-brick. Kalpana, who tried to pacify the two, sustained minor injuries in the melee. Later, Reddy surrendered to us,” the police said.

Financier hacked to death

A small time financier, who was allegedly involved in an attempt to murder case, was hacked to death around 10.30 am in Agrahara Dasarahalli in Kamakshipalya police station limits on Wednesday.

The deceased, Venugopal, 26, was the son of Govindaraju, a granite merchant. He had allegedly tried to murder one Raghavendra four months ago and had obtained bail in that case.

Police said Venugopal, living  near 12th cross, was standing at a tea stall near his house and a gang of 10-12 assailants attacked him with lethal weapons and fled.

He sustained fatal injuries and succumbed on the spot, they added.

It is suspected that Raghavendra’s associates have killed Venugopal to avenge the earlier attack.
