In association with several non-profit organisations including CNCC, NSS, Centre for Social Development and RASF, CMR Department of Psychology recently observed “World Suicide Prevention Day” by organising a student rally.
More than 200 students participated in the rally. They launched a helpline 080-6500 0111 to provide counseling support for students and teenagers on the occasion.
Flagged off by Director of CMR Group of Institutions, Prof.Bhaskar Reddy, the rally covered a distance of 5 kilometres.
Starting from OMBR Layout college campus II, the rally passed through Kullappa Circle Road, Kammanahalli Main Road and then turned toward Banaswadi Police Station Road and ended at HRBR layout CMR IMS campus. The rally targetted students, teenagers and aimed at creating awareness amongst general public regarding suicide and its ill effects.
Experts also provided insights on how to deal with suicidal thoughts. Bangalore, know as the suicide capital, recorded about 1778 suicide cases last year in which more than 50 per cent belonged to the age group of 15-29 years.
Principal of CMR Centre for Media & Management Studies shared, “Students are unable to handle their emotions and feelings and are ill equipped to face the challenges of life. Most of them don’t have a strong support system and their impulsive emotions overwhelm them and force them to resort to suicide. The root cause of this is lack of emotional intelligence which refers to the ability of an individual to perceive, control and evaluate emotions.”
