Athlete Ashwini Loses ATM Cards, Rs 1.7 Lakh

An unidentified miscreant allegedly stole ATM cards belonging to noted athlete Ashwini Nachappa and withdrew Rs 1.7 lakh from separate ATMs at Jayanagar on Tuesday.

An unidentified miscreant allegedly stole ATM cards belonging to noted athlete Ashwini Nachappa and withdrew Rs 1.7 lakh from separate ATMs at Jayanagar on Tuesday.

Police said Nachappa was participating in the Fame India athletes programme at Jayanagar Ground behind Cosmopolitan Club. She left her wallet behind on a chair on the dais. After a while, she received an SMS alert about the cash withdrawal and realised that her ATM cards were stolen.

Nachappa, in her complaint, said she had noted the PIN number on the cards, which helped the accused make multiple transactions in ATM kiosks around Jayanagar 4th Block.

Jayanagar police registered a case as she approached them first and later, transferred the case to Tilaknagar police as the area came under their jurisdiction. Police have sought CCTV footage from the ATM kiosks to identify the accused.

Man Hangs Self Over Debts

Mounting debts and alcoholism led a 34-year-old first division clerk at the Police Commissioner’s office to commit suicide by hanging on Tuesday.

The deceased, Ravikumar, a native of Channapatna, joined the police department as a first division clerk at the city police chief’s office on Infantry Road. He was staying at the HAL police quarters with his wife Roopa and two children. Police said Ravikumar hanged himself from the ceiling when his family was asleep.

Police said Ravikumar had lost money in cricket betting and was unable to repay loans taken from financiers. He was addicted to alcohol and was suspected to have committed suicide as he was upset over the debts. The deceased left a suicide note.

History-sheeter, 4 Aides in Police Net

The Central Crime Branch police on Monday arrested a history-sheeter and his four aides, who were allegedly hatching a plot to attack a rival gang.

Ravikumar alias Cycle Ravi (37) of Byatarayanapura, Manjuanth alias Gejji Manja of K G Nagar, Manju (24) of Chamrajpet, Rahil Ahmed alias Pacche (21) of Azad Nagar and Rajesh alias Raaji (24) of Hosakerehalli have been nabbed.

Ravi is involved in criminal activities, including seven murder cases, and C K Acchukattu, Hanumanthnagar, Girinagar and Kengeri police have registered cases against him.
