Peenya police on Sunday arrested a 32-year-old officer of the Indian Air Force four days after his wife committed suicide at their residence at the IAF staff quarters near Hesaraghatta due to alleged dowry harassment.
Pankaj Kumar, a native of Bihar, worked as an officer in the Air Force. He married Thammi Kumari (28) in 2004 and the couple had two children.
Thammi committed suicide by hanging on December 4. On Friday, her older brother Rakesh filed a police complaint alleging that Kumar and his parents had harassed Thammi for dowry, which led her to take the extreme step. He also claimed Kumar was addicted to pornography, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple. Based on Rakesh’s complaint, Pankaj was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, police added.
