Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Dr H Maheshappa on Tuesday said funds to the tune Rs 1 crore was misappropriated when Prof K Balaveera Reddy was the VC.
Reacting to a report published in these columns titled ‘VTU Functioning Without Finance Officer’, Maheshappa said, “I was surprised to see former V-C Prof Balaveera Reddy’s reaction. I just want to ask him about the misappropriation of funds up to Rs 1 crore when he was the V-C though there was a full-time Finance Officer.”
He also said, “I will be the happiest person if the government appoints a Finance Officer tomorrow itself.”
Reddy had said, “I brought this (the lack of Finance Officer) to the notice of the Principal Secretary of Higher Education Department, but no action has been initiated.”
He had also questioned that who would be held responsible, if any misappropriation of funds happens.
