A day after theatre person and small screen actor Ashok Kumar died after falling with his bike into an open ditch dug up by the BBMP, Additional Commissioner of Traffic B Dayananda said on Monday that civic agencies were not following rules and setting up barricades on areas where civic works are carried out.

Dayananda told Express that he has asked the police to verify if proper precautionary measures have been taken in areas where BBMP is carrying out works. There must be enough lighting and the work area must be visible, he said.

He also said security guards must be posted with lit batons to guide commuters at night in areas which see heavy traffic.
