The search committee constituted for the selection of a vice-chancellor for Davangere University held one-on-one interviews with shortlisted candidates in the city on Tuesday.

The committee, headed by Jnanpith awardee Dr U R Anantha Murthy, had shortlisted 16 candidates on November 21. The committee directed all shortlisted candidates to prepare a Power Point presentation about their vision for that university and present it on December 17.

The candidates who had come to face the interview were excited. “We thought there are no more interviews in our career. But, I am excited to face an interview after a long time,” said a shortlisted candidate from Karnataka University, Dharwad.

The interview started from 10 am and went on till 5 pm. Anantha Murthy said, “We have finished the process and handed over our recommendations to the official concerned at the Higher Education Department.”

However, Anantha Murthy refused to reveal the names recommended.

Sources from the Higher Education Department told Express that the three names recommended were Prof Eresi from Bangalore University, Prof R Indira from Mysore University and Prof Iqbal Ahmed from National Urdu University, Hyderabad.

Though there were controversies over the appointment of Vice-Chancellors in the state, the chairman of the search committee Anantha Murthy decided to bring in transparency and initiated the process of conducting interviews by shortlisting 16 candidates.
