Devi Academy Senior Secondary School, Valasaravakkam, hosted ‘Gana Sangamam’, an inter-school community singing programme and an annual feature of West Chennai Sahodaya Cluster Schools (CBSE).

It was an event where 176 students (both boys and girls) from 18 schools of the West Cluster participated. The programme began with a prayer by the music teachers. Abdul Raheem, chairperson, West Cluster and Prinicpal, Sindhi Model Sr Sec School, welcomed the gathering.

Students sang songs on national integration, on pollution and unity in English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Sanskrit and Punjabi. Three songs including the prayer were taken from the Value Education Kit prepared by the CBSE.

Dr Rukmini Ramani, daughter of the Carnatic musician Papanasam Sivan, and P Saisharan of Star Vijay’s Airtel Super Singer 3, were the esteemed guests. Dr Rukmini gave an inspiring speech and blessed the children. P Saisharan remembered his days at Devi Academy while he was in KG and sang two songs.

The guests were introduced by P N Sundari, Principal, Kola Saraswathi Vaishnav Sr Sec School; and Malathy Sreenivasan, Principal, Devi Academy.

It was a musical treat to the audience comprising principals of West Chennai Sahodaya Cluster Schools, guests and students of Devi Academy.

West Chennai Sahodaya Cluster Schools honoured all music teachers with a special memento presented by Dr Rukmini.

P Vijayalakshmi, secretary, West Chennai Sahodaya Cluster Schools, and Principal, Chinmaya Vidyalaya proposed the vote of thanks.
