The X-masball

Looking for decorations for the Christmas tree? Try your hand at making one

Things you need

  Chart-paper or 10 mm quilling strips

   A straight wire to pin the papers. Here we have used     jewellery wire

  A straw or old refill or beads

  A ribbon or thread

  Two flat sequins

  Pins to prick holes on the    paper

  Nose pliers

   A pair of scissors if using chart-paper

Step 1

Cut the chart paper into strips measuring 1.5 cm wide. The length will depend on how big you wish the ball to be. Here it’s 8 cm. Approximately half the length of your paper strip would be the length of the ball

Step 2

Using the nose pliers roll one end of the wire into a loop. If you do not have a pliers you can use a small pair of  scissors. However, be careful not to cut the wire.

Step 3

Cut the wire 10 cm long

Step 4

Using the nose pliers roll one end of the wire into a loop. If you do not have a pliers you can use a small pair of  scissors. However, be careful not to cut the wire.

Step 5

Pass a sequin through the wire so that it sits on the loop.

Step 6

Pass the wire through the paper strips one by one. If you are using multiple colours then alternate the colours.

Step 7

Cut a refill or straw 4 cm in length and pass it through the wire. If you are using beads then fill half of the length of the wire with them.

Step 8

Take the last strip and pass it through the wire so that it sits on top of the refill. Repeat the step till all the strips have been pinned.

Step 9

Pass the second sequin through the wire. Press down the paper strips and using the nose pliers roll the top end of the wire to make a loop touching the sequin

Step 10

Cut excess wire, if any.

Step 11

Tie the thread or ribbon in such a way that you can hang the ornament on the Christmas tree
