In a freak accident, a drunk 45-year-old man died of injuries sustained after he slipped and fell from the steps of a bar at Magadi Road near Toll Gate on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shivakumar Swamy, a resident of Kempapura Agrahara on Magadi Road, who worked as a tempo driver.
According to police, Swamy had consumed excessive liquor at the Saptagiri Bar and fell from its steps as he was leaving. Locals took him to his house and helped him lie in a bed. Some time later, his family noticed that Swamy had died and informed the police. His body was then sent for postmortem.
His relatives claimed Swamy was involved in a quarrel with bar employees over the payment of the bill and they had pushed him off the steps to his death. Magadi Road police are investigating.
