Thieves Try to Cart Away ATM, Guard Suspected

A gang of three masked men made a futile attempt to take away an ATM machine belonging to Indian Bank on Malleshwaram 5th Main Road late on Monday night.

Police suspect that the night shift security guard, who is reportedly absconding, was involved in orchestrating the incident.

A senior police officer said the miscreants entered the ATM kiosk around midnight and managed to disconnect the machine, which was clamped to the floor, and removed it. However, their attempt to prise the machine with iron rods and other tools failed, forcing them to abandon their bid. The incident came to light in the morning when another security guard, who reported for duty, noticed the broken ATM and informed bank officials.

Police said Girish, the night shift guard, has been absconding after the incident. The trio had worn monkey caps to conceal their identities while inside the kiosk.

Malleshwaram police are investigating the incident using CCTV footage from the kiosk.
