Brigade Road will become one way for pedestrians; Bangaloreans will not be able to walk in the opposite direction from Opera Junction to MG Road. Movement of vehicles on the flyovers will be closed for a certain duration. There will be no entry for vehicles except police vehicles and vehicles of essential services on certain roads.
These are few stern steps taken by the traffic police on the intervening night of 31st December and 1st January.
Giving details on the preventive steps taken up by the traffic police, B. Dayananda, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bangalore City said, "We will encourage people to celebrate as long as they behave. We have made elaborate arrangements through the night of the New Year's eve. We have a lot of people gathering in and around Brigade Road, Residency Road and Church Street, especially the youngsters. So, from 2 pm onwards, we will remove vehicle parking from all these roads. In the evening, depending on the crowd swelling, we will restrict the movements of vehicles also, from 8 pm onwards. Parking will be allowed at Kamaraj Road and other places. They have to take a deviation at Anil Kumble circle and go to BRV junction and then reach Kamaraj Road and park their vehicle."
The police also plan to close flyovers where there are alternate roads. "If there is a necessity for commuters to use only the flyover, then we will put up proper barricading. This is done to cut down speed, avoid accidents on the flyover as well as to curb down the menace of drag racing, which usually takes place on such areas. All flyovers will either be closed or completely regulated on New Year's eve," he said.
Dayananda stated that for sensitive areas like communal areas and others, there will be adequate security provided.
"We have already spread the message with press notes given two days in advance. We are also on Facebook and other social media, radio and various TV channels, where we are spreading the message about the arrangements being made and expect people to cooperate," he said.
