Always the right age to make a change

Always the right age to make a change

We often come across articles in newspapers and magazines about a wonderful deed by yet another child (or teen) prodigy. And put them aside thinking, “Big deal. She’s got the brains and I haven’t — genes and all.”

But there are a few things we should remember.

People who achieve something and make a difference to the world need not be born geniuses. They could just be someone who wants to make the world better and are determined enough to get up from the couch and do it. Anyone, including you and me, can make a difference provided they have the will. You don’t need to go looking for a problem to solve either, because there are plenty in our own backyards. Be it a young boy getting bullied in your school, an orphanage in your neighborhood or a hungry stray cat, you can always help and it will always count.

How can we help? Taking part in awareness movements, going for charity drives, personally helping at old age homes and labour camps is one way. But how bad would it be if we donated our birthday money to make little, unfortunate faces smile, instead of trashing the old iphone 4 to buy the new iphone 5?

People don’t believe that something small they do will make a difference. Every little thing counts. Even if you are not appreciated by others for the little things you do, remember that you are still becoming a better human being. We can use our talents to help the world. If I am good at singing. I can do a fundraising concert, right? Good writers can use their pens as weapons for making peace. What’s better than that feeling of pride and warmth you get when you see the results of your work?

Start now. It’s never too late or early to make the world happier. Helping others is a way of showing gratitude for what we have. It’s our world, so shrugging off responsibility or trying to justify the sufferings of the world is of no use. We children and teens have to show that we can do what even adults can’t, because we are the leaders and hope of tomorrow.

How about putting down this article and trying to help out someone, even if it is your own mom, right now?
