CCTV grab has clear image of ATM assailant

A man attacked a woman banker around 7.30 am on Tuesday with a machete at an ATM here, leaving her severely injured.

A bleeding Jyoti Uday Kumar, manager of Corporation Bank on Mission Road here, was rescued 3 hours after the attack. “Since there was no guard and no customer turned up after her, no one noticed the incident. At 10.35 am, she regained consciousness and cried out for help. Security guards and staff of the LIC office alerted us,” a cop told Express.

“The CCTV footage shows that he stepped in as soon as Jyoti entered the kiosk. He demanded money and she spoke to him for 15 seconds,” a senior police officer said.

When she resisted and tried to move to a corner of the kiosk, the mugger attacked her with the chopper and ran out. Police suspect he escaped with the victim’s purse.

“We have a clear image of the attacker. It looks like he was lurking near the ATM, and attacked the first person he saw,” an SJ Park police officer said.
