Thieves tried to break open and steal cash from an unguarded ATM kiosk of HDFC Bank, which was shut recently following the City Police Commissioner’s order, on K Narayanapura Main Road in Kothanur police station limits early on Friday. The attempted theft came to light when some locals noticed the damaged shutter of the kiosk and informed the police.

Police said that a man, aged around 25 to 30 years, broke open the shutter and attempted to open the ATM machine with a screw driver. After 20 minutes of futile attempt, the suspect pulled down the shutters and went away. The CCTV camera images were not clear due to bad light.

The lights of the kiosk were switched off and the accused was wearing a woollen cap, which is making it difficult to identify the culprit, police added.

The CCTV images have been sent to FSL and fingerprints sent to the Crime Records Bureau to establish his identity, police said.
