Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) decided to invite a time bound tender to change the broken sewer line near Allalasandra lake in Yelahanka at the cost of `58 lakh on Tuesday.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) decided to rejuvenate Allalasandra lake after the flow of sewage is stopped into the lake.

The decision was taken after Upa Lokayukta S B Majage, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana, BWSSB Chairman M S Ravishankar and other officials visited the lake to inspect it after the residents in the area complained about the foul smell emanating from the lake.

The team of officials found that the sewer lines were broken in many places and the sewage was entering the lake through the storm water drains, which in turn caused the foul smell in and around the lake.

Therefore, the BWSSB decided to fix the leakages in the sewer lines and to draw a new line to divert the sewage to the treatment plant in Yelahanka.

After the inspection, BBMP Commissioner Lakshminarayana told Express, “We are planning to rejuvenate the lake and develop it into a picnic spot by developing a park and other things around the lake after the BWSSB diverts the sewage that is flowing into the lake in another six months. As there is no outlet in the lake all the sewage has accumulated in the lake. First we have to clear that.”
