Mentally ill man kills daughter

A mentally ill man allegedly killed his 12-year-old daughter by smashing her head with the motor of a ceiling fan at their house in Govindashettypalya on Tuesday.

A mentally ill man allegedly killed his 12-year-old daughter by smashing her head with the motor of a ceiling fan at their house in Govindashettypalya on Tuesday.

Balaji (35), reportedly remorseful for his act, drank pesticide to kill himself. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital where his condition was said to be critical.

According to police sources, relatives said Balaji had been on medication for his foul temper. He was known to scream and create a ruckus in his house. He had also been admitted in a mental hospital at Belur in Hassan district, police sources added.

Police are yet to ascertain why Balaji attacked his daughter Hemalatha, who was a student of Sham School. When the incident occurred, his wife Kavitha  was at work. Kavitha rushed home when her husband did not respond to her phone calls only to find Balaji and Hemalatha lying motionless.

Parappana Agrahara police are investigating the case.

Woman Commits Suicide

Dowry harassment claimed another life in the city on Monday. Vijayashree (20) committed suicide at her residence in Sunakalpalya near Kumbalgodu.

According to police, Vijayashree married Nagaraj, a private company employee, six months ago. The victim’s parents lodged a case of dowry harassment against her husband. The police have arrested Nagaraj in this connection.
