Leprosy activists felicitated

The Indian Development Foundation (IDF) on Wednesday felicitated people who had contributed to the cause of rehabilitating leprosy patients and reintegrating them into society.

The Indian Development Foundation (IDF) on Wednesday felicitated people who had contributed to the cause of rehabilitating leprosy patients and reintegrating them into society.

At a function in the city on Wednesday, IDF CEO Dr S Franklin said the organisation, previously known as Indian Leprosy Foundation, offered various training programmes for people with leprosy.

Mary Mascarenhas, a nun from the Sumanahalli Centre for treatment and rehabilitation of leprosy patients, said “After a 36-year struggle, the State Government, in the budget, has agreed to give free education to 100 children of leprosy patients and 300 children of people with HIV.”

Two students, whose parents were differently-abled and rehabilitated, were  also felicitated at the function for securing 92 per cent in SSLC exams.

Dr H Sudarshan, hon secretary, VGKK and Karuna Trust, BR Hills, P Madhusudan Rao, secretary and correspondent, The Secundrabad Public School, Secunderabad and Venkat Krishnan CMD, Refrx Mediatech Pvt Limited, were present at the function.
