Station masters stage protest

Members of the All India Station Masters’ Association staged a protest in front of the office of the Divisional Railway Manager here on Wednesday demanding revision of their minimum grade pay from `2,800 to `4,200 and filling up of vacant posts.

Hari Prasad, Association joint divisional secretary, said the Union Ministry of Finance had not cleared the revision of their grade pay even though the Railway Board had accepted the demand. He noted that many posts of station masters were lying vacant. “Out of 436 posts in Bangalore division, 86 are vacant. Consequently, existing staff are overworked,” he said.

The association is also demanding implementation of an eight-hour duty roster, timely promotions and posting of additional station masters at busy railway stations, and cabins.
