Two boys, who went fishing along with their friends in Palace lake near Mekhri Circle, drowned on Sunday afternoon.

Search operations for the bodies that continued till Monday evening have not yielded any results yet.

The deceased have been identified as Ramesh, 17, and Manirathnam alias Chinna, 14, residents of Jakkarayanakere in Sheshadripuram. They were studying in a private school.

The police said the duo had gone to the lake along with six friends - Ashok, Wilson, Purushottam, Girish, Sharan and Narasimha - around 2.30 pm.

All of them were fishing after lunch for a while. Ramesh, Chinna, and Narasimha jumped into the lake to swim. As they did not know how to swim, they drowned and their friends ran away from the spot after they began shouting for help. However, Narasimha managed to survive and reached the tank-bund.

After a while, he reached home and informed his parents about the incident, who then alerted the police and fire personnel staff.

High ground police along with officials from the Fire and Emergency services rushed to the spot and started search operations immediately.

The bodies have not been found yet, they stated.
