Speaker refers privilege issue against Stalin

Speaker P Dhanapal on Tuesday referred the breach of privilege issue raised against DMK floor leader MK Stalin and deputy floor leader Durai Murugan by Municipal Administration Minister KP Munusamy to the Privileges Committee of the State Assembly.

Speaker P Dhanapal on Tuesday referred the breach of privilege issue raised against DMK floor leader MK Stalin and deputy floor leader Durai Murugan by Municipal Administration Minister KP Munusamy to the Privileges Committee of the State Assembly.

During the zero hour, the Speaker said, the Municipal Administration Minister raised a privilege issue against Stalin and Durai Murugan stating that they had given information about the proceedings of the House on October 25 and 28 that was contrary to the truth.

“Both attributed motives to the ruling given by the Speaker that no unparliamentary word was used by me. Besides, they quoted me as saying ‘kevalam conductor’ (after all, conductor) which I did not utter. As a member of the House, this amounts to breach of my privilege, the privilege of the Speaker and the privilege of the House as a whole,” Munusamy said in his petition to the Speaker.

Referring to this, the Speaker said since prima facie there seemed to be a privilege issue. He was referring the issue to the Privileges Committee to inquire into the issue as per Rule 226 of the House.
