How can I locate my booth?
Try Google maps. You can also SMS the EPIC number (on your voter ID card) to 92433 55223. Mention the code KAEPIC (space), followed by your 10-digit number. In a minute, you will get the number of the polling station and its location.
Can I call a helpline?
Yes. 1950 is the number.
I don’t have a voter ID card. Can I still vote?
Yes, provided your name is on the voter list. Take one of these documents for proof of identity: driving licence, passport, Aadhaar card, PAN card, state and central government ID card (if you are a government employee), bank passbook or post office savings passbook.
For senior citizens, a pension card or senior citizenship card will suffice. Also acceptable are property documents with photo, SC/ST/OBC certificates, and freedom fighter ID cards. If you hold an EPIC card, but your name is not listed, sorry, you can’t vote.
Can I take a picture of myself voting?
Not inside the booth. If you click a self-picture or any picture, and post it on Facebook, you could be booked.
Can I carry a mobile into the booth?
No. If you can’t leave it at home, hand it over to the presiding officer, cast your vote, and then take it back.
Can I carry a camera at least?
Not inside the booth. You are free to take pictures of the queues or of the indelible ink on your finger outside.
How do I check if my name is on the voter list?
Go to http://ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in/Search Home_New.aspx. Enter your name (There are serious spelling mistakes in some records, so enter only a part of your name. eg: If your name is Jagannatha, then try ‘jagan’) , your relation’s name (the one that you filled in form 6 - e.g. your father’s name or your husband’s name), and your assembly constituency. Search results give you your voter ID number, your serial number, and your voting booth details.
What if my name is missing?
Many people are unable to find their names using ‘search by name’ even when their names are on the list. This may be because of software errors. Try entering only your ‘first name’ in the name field and only the ‘first name’ of your relation in the ‘relation name’ field.
What if my name is misspelt?
Search in the pdf files of the booths in your area. Select your district and then assembly constituency. The full list of polling booths (with address) in that assembly constituency is displayed. Download the pdf files of 4-5 polling booths nearest to your residence and search your name (using Ctrl-F) in those pdf files. Try various combinations for searching: your first name, your last name, your relation’s first name and last name.
Do all members of a family vote in one place?
Sometimes, two persons in the same family can get different polling booths. So don’t assume that your polling booth is the same as that of your family member or neighbour. Search in pdf files of all the polling booths nearest to your residence.
