CHENNAI: St Kevin’s Anglo Indian High School, Royapuram, buzzed with activities on Friday, celebrating Green Day (Earth Day). The event highlighted the work being done by the school all these years to support the environment and keep it green and clean.

The celebrations started with a special assembly by the students of the Eco-club, to which the entire school was invited. Everyone took a pledge to protect the fragile earth.

Sr Leela, Superior of St Antony’s, Pudupet, graced the occasion with her presence leaving a positive impact on the students. Students of Classes 3 and 4 dressed as vibrant eco fairies took a rally round the neighbourhood raising slogans and carrying placards with the message — Go green, keep the earth clean, keep your home clean and save water. The school was filled with ecologically themed art works and model exhibits by the students.

A stall with organic products was set up to encourage organic food consumption, which leads to a healthy life. It was a pleasure to see ‘Teen Earth Warriors’ involved in vermi composting, brick and poster making. Nochi saplings and other medicinal herbs such as tulsi and aloe vera were distributed to make the surroundings mosquito free.

The headmistress Sr Vinita said that Green Earth Day event had galvanised more students and parents than any other event, showing concern about global healing and help understanding the importance of the three P’s — Protect, Preserve, Promote. The budding environmentalists of St Kevin’s celebrated the mega green event to spark awareness and make a difference to save our planet.
