The government has extended the deadline for submitting the inquiry report on charges of irregularities against Bangalore University Registrar (Evaluation) Prof R K Somashekar to March 31.
The Department of Higher Education extended the deadline following a request from Prof M I Savadathi, a former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University who is heading the inquiry.
In September 2013, the Department of Higher Education had ordered an inquiry into allegations of misuse of university funds and corruption in appointing custodians for examinations involving Somashekar.
The government order had said the committee led by Savadathi was to complete the probe and submit a report by the end of February.
Szpeaking to Express about the extension, official sources said, “There were also allegations against the registrar that he was not cooperating with the inquiry commission and all related documents were in his possession. Keeping that in mind, we have given some more time to complete the inquiry.”
Meanwhile, Savadathi alleged that some people were trying to influence the inquiry committee by calling him and lobbying for Somashekar, but declined to provide details.
