Block Education Officers (BEOs) on Monday announced the availability of 27,777 seats in 2,259 schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the city.
The seats are available under the 25 per cent quota in pre-primary (kindergarten) and Class 1 for children belonging to economically and socially underprivileged sections of the society.
Bangalore North district has seen an increase in the number of seats. Last year, there were 12,181 seats. This year, there are 13,053 seats available in 972 unaided non-minority schools.
Bangalore South district (except South-2) has 14,724 seats this year in 1,287 schools. Officials from the Bangalore South-2 educational range refused to share the number of available seats.
Children whose parents earn less than `3.5 lakh annually are eligible for seats under the RTE. Preference will be given to those whose annual income is below `1 lakh. If the number of applicants is more than the available seats, allotment will be done by picking lots. Of the 25 per cent of RTE seats, 7.5 per cent is reserved for SCs, 1.5 per cent for ST and 16 per cent for OBCs, including the physically challenged and the HIV-affected.
